[news] Google China Site Shuts Down

23 03 2010

We know that this might happen after a few hacking incidents a few months back, where Google accounts was allegedly hacked by China sponsored computer geeks. After that Google has been talking about not censoring search results. We now know how it all have ended, because the Chinese government has been crystal clear that self-censorship is a non-negotiable legal requirement.

Today if you head on to Google.cn, you wil be directed to Google.com.hk

I must admit that I truely admire Google for such a gutsy move, because it’s not easy for a public listed company to turn away from such a huge market as China. And I believe that this is because the founder still have a say on how to run the company, not some short term profit driven CEO. That’s my take!

The Net Information

The difference is that China actively blocks anything that might possibly present a mere difference of opinion with the CP. The US does no such thing.
